Feeling Guilty Much?

So Today I had a follow-up appointment with Lucy's Dr. to make sure she was doing okay. Everything was fine, aside from some residual gunk in her lungs and ears that should clear up soon. For those of you that have been concerned, she does not have swine flu. Anyways, we talked a lot about how Lucy is sick all the time, she is constantly battling a cold, ear infection, sinus infection, you name it. The Dr. then proceeds to tell me about antibodies and all this medical mumbo jumbo and that he thinks Lucy just does not have the immunities she needs to fight off respiratory illnesses but will probably develop them by the time she is 5 or 6. So this is going to be an ongoing problem, he even suggested I buy some surgical masks for our house. He basically said that if something is going around, she will get it. So while driving home all I could think of is what a terrible Mommy I have been to her. Some of you might remember that I only nursed Lucy for 3 months and then quit when I went to the hospital with back spasms. At the time I was thinking that plenty of kids are formula fed and turn out fine, but my kid apparently is not like other kids; I can't help but think that things might have been different if I had nursed her longer. I find it crazy that as mother's we give everything we are to our kids and still seem to find something to feel guilty about.

Maximum Sleep Deprivation

Lucy woke up Wednesday night feeling sick and acting not like herself, we stayed up for four hours together until I finally woke Sean up to give her a blessing. After her blessing I knew I needed to take her to the hospital but kept second guessing myself because it seemed like an overreaction. Finally I took her up to Primary Children's Hospital Emergency where she was quickly hooked up to oxygen and started on steroids and breathing treatments. She also had to have a chest x-ray done and the horrible nose suction thing. After spending all night and most of the morning in the ER, the Dr.'s finally decided she was stable enough to admit her. So this was our home away from home for the weekend. She ended up having a viral respitory infection and continued to need oxygen that day and during the night while she slept. The next morning she woke up ready to go. She pulled her oxygen tube and monitor off and was throwing every blanket and burp cloth she could find onto the floor. The Dr.'s were very impressed at how she was doing and decided that if she didn't need oxygen during her nap that day then she could go home. She did great during her nap and was discharged later that evening.
I am so grateful for the Priesthood in our home and for the Spirit that it brings. I know if I had left it up to my practical mind alone I would have stayed home fearing that I was overreacting. I know that I got a nudge from the Spirit letting me know that my "Mom Instincts" were on target. I'm so grateful to live so close to such an amazing facility, we were so well taken care of by the wonderful staff at Primary. Thank you also Alison and Debi for being so willing (at a moments notice) to take care of Izzy while we were up at the hospital. I am so grateful for my little Lucy and the fighting spirit she has been given, no one would guess that just a couple days ago she was in the ER with Dr.'s telling me she was not stable enough to be moved upstairs. It was a crazy, scary, sleep deprived weekend and I'm glad it's over.

She's One!

Better late then never...Lucy turned one on the 26th. She was sick with double ear infections (what's new) but that didn't stop her from having fun. We had my family over for a fun birthday dinner, presents, and cupcakes. I can't believe she is one already, the time has flown by. She is such a joy to our family, despite being sick all the time, she is the happiest kid I have ever seen. She loves life, loves to explore and figure things out. She's been walking for over a month now and she is constantly "headed for trouble", as Izzy puts it. She loves to try and put things on by herself, like shoes, hats, sweaters, headbands, necklaces, and is so happy when she figures out how! Like her sister, she is fiercely independent and is determined to do things her own way, which makes diaper changes and getting dressed feel more like a wrestling match then anything. We love her so much and are so excited to see what Lucy will show us this next year of life! We love you Goose!

Izzy

Izzy had such a big day this last Saturday. First she had her preschool graduation, it was so cute, they sang a bunch of songs that they had been learning during the year and then we got to eat breakfast with all the kids and families from her preschool. She has loved going to preschool this year, she loves to learn and loves to be with her friends. She is so in love with "Miss Alison", and I am so glad that she gets to learn and grow in such a loving, supportive, environment. We love you Alison! (If any of you are looking for an awesome preschool for next fall, let me know, I'll get you Alison's #).
Next we had her big dance recital. She looked so cute and was so excited to wear her costume and even more excited when mom let her put on some make-up for the recital. She loves to preform so she didn't have any problem heading out on stage to dance in front of everyone. She did such a great job! Thanks to everyone who came and watched.

Super Izzy!

Today Izzy ran her first 5K! Every year Sean and I run the Law Day 5K up at the U, Izzy usually rides in the stroller but Lucy has taken her place so she ran it with me. She did so awesome, she is a great little athlete. We walked/ran the race in just over an hour. She was such a trooper, it was pouring rain and by the end she was soaked to the bone but as soon as she saw the finish line she took off sprinting to get to it. I am so proud of her!

April Fun

Good times have been had by all this April. First, we had a fabulous Easter full of egg hunts, pretty dresses for church, and lots of family time.
Next, we celebrated Sean's 30th Birthday. He is such and old fart. The two of us got to go to the Jazz game the weekend before, which was awesome, even though our poor team lost. We went to dinner at Marcello's and out for ice cream on the actual day and then the next day had a birthday extravaganza with plenty of candy, cake, ice cream, pop, and smores. We love him so much and are so grateful to have him for our husband and daddy. Each day with you gets better and better babe.
Finally, we kicked of Spring with the first Miller Family hike of the year! It was so fun to get outside together with the girls finally. Izzy was in heaven (along with Mom and Dad) and Lucy loved getting to ride in the piggyback (after some initial protesting). We both got giddy talking about all the hiking and camping we will get to do this summer because there will not be any school standing in the way this year.
We've had a busy month and with all the great stuff going on I was constantly reminded of how blessed I am to have such and amazing family. They are so fun, I can't wait for all our warm weather adventures!
